The Stroop Club / Austin Dutch Food

The Scrumptious 200 Year Old Caramel Syrup Cookie.

Origin / The Netherlands — We’re the ‘crazy Dutch,’ as people in Austin refer to us. We moved from the beautiful city of Rotterdam straight to Austin in September 2015. Fully indulging in Austin culture, but still cherishing our own traditions, we had to share our lovely authentic stroopwafels with Texas. The stroopwafel is definitely the one and only traditional cookie of our home country. Seriously, don’t mess with stroopwafels, this recipe is over 200 years old! A crunchy cinnamon-y double layered waffle cookie filled with luscious caramel. A hint of sweet vanilla, a spicy cinnamon bite; crunchy and soft, it’s the best snack to have with your coffee or tea. Or bourbon. Or with ice cream. In your granola. While hiking… Or just, anytime of the day!

You can find our stroopwafels in a lot of stores and coffee shops in downtown Austin and you can try fresh stroopwafels at Farmers’ markets in the weekends. We work with many local vendors, creating incredibly delicious ‘gourmet’ stroopwafels, hot and fresh, just off the iron. We even have gluten free and vegan options. Want a workshop? Make them at your home, wedding, birthday party or corporate event? No problem at all, we bring our gear to give you your smile.

Austin's Habibi / Austin Mediterranean Food

A Childhood Passion Turned Mediterranean Eatery.

Origin / Eastern Mediterranean: Greece, Turkey, Jordan — Tucked just below a towering sky scraper, Austin’s Habibi serves the type of fresh, healthy and flavorful food that the eastern Mediterranean is known for, from Greece to the Middle East. From vegetarian options like crisp balls of falafel, to tender chicken and lamb gyros and shawarma straight from a vertical rotisserie,  you’ll enjoy ever bite.

Owner, Ali Alabudi, has been in the restaurant business for nearly 20 years. His family has owned numerous restaurants and hotels abroad and he started to work with his father when he was just 12 year old, making him no stranger to hospitality and the importance of fresh and tasty ingredients in the Mediterranean food he serves his customers.  When he came to the United States, he decided to open and bring the same type of eatery to in Austin’s Habibi.

Guantanamera / Cuban Food in Austin

Guantanamera is a place of discovery.

Origin / Cuba — A genuine, Cuban restaurant and bar, Guantanamera offers traditional Cuban dishes, all freshly prepared with hand-picked ingredients and served alongside island fresh cocktails and tropical smoothies. Guantanamera promises you a highly authentic Cuban experience by catering to all your senses. Its talented staff, decor, music, food, and beverage bring the ambiance of Cuba directly to Austin. We especially invite you to try our signature, hand crafted, Caribbean mojitos.

Iskander Gener left Cuba in 2008 at age 24. His circuitous path to the United States via Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, Brasil, and Mexico over the next two years served as an introduction to mainland, Latin American cuisine and her various dining customs. After finally arriving in Austin, Texas in 2010, Iskander began working at popular Cuban restaurants. His honest and hard-working character, coupled with his fun-loving and generous personality were an immediate fit. As a result, his natural talent for the restaurant industry quickly led to a successful management role which he held for three years ending in 2014. With this background and a trove of family recipes, Iskander formed his own vision for a Cuban estalisment in Austin, one whose philosophy, “Simple, Fresh & Homemade” would resonate in Austin’s quest for authenticity.

In February 2015, Iska and his Ecuadorian wife Tuky opened Guantanamera as a manifestation of their own American dream. Their vision for Guantanamera is to provide un rincon (hiding corner) where one can escape to find homemade Cuban recipes prepared with the freshest ingredients. Guantanamera further seeks to provide an authentic, multicultural experience akin to dining with a Cuban family, 90 miles off the Florida coast.

Chicken Lollypop 13.jpg

Chicken Lollypop /  Indo-Chinese Food in Austin

Fresh offerings of delicacies, that’s FOOD.

Origin / India: Bombay also known as Mumbai — Owner and Chef Immie Shaikh defines food as “Fresh Offerings of Delicacies” (F-O-O-D), and uses this acronym in his own creations at Chicken Lollypop, an authentic Bombay-style Indo-Chinese restaurant nestled inside the Breaker Lane Food Mart in North Austin. To him, the freshness of the meat and vegetables he uses are at the forefront of his recipes—that’s why he manages and cooks everything himself to ensure that the quality and authenticity of his Indian Chinese specialty cuisine isn’t compromised.

The only Indo-Chinese restaurant in Austin, Chicken Lollypop features house-made entrees, sandwiches, wraps, and the popular and famous street food chicken lollypops—a sort of “jumbo chicken wing” which alone takes a 16 hour process from brining, to marinating in a house-made sauce to drudging in a melody of aromatic Indian Chinese spices. Also popular on the menu are the naan wraps, soups, chicken entrees, and fried rice plates which include the chef-invented Chili Chicken Fried Rice and Chicken Manchurian Fried Rice which can’t be found anywhere else.
